Principal Scientist

We are looking for a highly-motivated Principal Scientist to join the Department of Molecular Screening. Our department is responsible for the molecular and cellular pharmacology input to Lundbeck’s drug discovery projects. We use a broad range of technologies and methods including manual and automated electrophysiology, various plate-based readers for cell and biochemical assays, and a range of liquid handlers. The department resides in the division of Molecular Discovery and Innovation and plays a central role in the Research organization and is based at Lundbeck’s headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. The department of Molecular Screening is fully integrated and fundamental to the identification, progression and optimization of novel drugs. 

Your job
You will be part of a team responsible for the molecular pharmacology and screening input mainly to ion channel research projects aiming for new drug candidates for psychiatric and neurological diseases. You will be responsible for planning and executing studies and reporting these to project teams. The position will include overseeing lab work to support assay development and hit finding as well as the understanding of new drug candidates’ structure-activity relationship and mechanism of action at the molecular target. Additionally, project participation representing the area and interaction with other departments defining the critical path for target validation and compound progression will be a significant part of the job. You will work closely together with technicians and academics in the department and be involved in cross-functional and multidisciplinary project teams thereby contribution to the collaborative environment within Lundbeck as well as take part in external collaborations and management of CRO’s.

Key responsibilities

  • Planning, executing and interpretation of molecular pharmacology studies to support drug discovery projects, particularly on ion channel targets
  • Representing the department in research project teams to ensure molecular screening and pharmacology data and expertise
  • Contribute to the development of the department’s capabilities for hit finding and compound profiling within ion channels
  • Working effectively together with internal and external collaborators and overseeing outsourcing activities

Our preferred candidate has the following personal and professional qualifications:

  • PhD degree in molecular pharmacology or related area.
  • At least eight years of research experience including industrial drug discovery work.
  • Excellent and documented ion channel and molecular pharmacology understanding
  • Hand on experience with electrophysiological and pharmacological methods such as manual and automated patch clamp, two electrode voltage clamp, fluorescent-based and binding assays.
  • Scientific leadership skills and project management experiences.
  • Efficient, goal oriented and independent work style with flexible mind-set.
  • Team player with strong collaboration and communication skills.
