Patent Counsel

We are seeking a patent counsel to Global Patents, Corporate Patents & Trademark, H. Lundbeck A/S. Do you have a passion for Intellectual Property (IP) protection of pharmaceuticals? Do you want to join a strong team of colleagues dedicated to protect and defend Lundbeck’s IP rights, and a company highly committed to improving the quality of life of people living with psychiatric and neurological disorders? Corporate Patents & Trademarks is responsible for securing IP protection for Lundbeck’s R&D pipeline and launched products, and for globally enforcing Lundbeck’s IP rights. We are currently 19 employees in Denmark. We work in close collaboration with Lundbeck’s R&D, Commercial, Legal and Business Development organizations as well as with our business partners and foreign associates. The open position is in Global Patents located at our headquarters in Copenhagen.

Your job and key responsibilities
We are looking for patent counsel with experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for pharmaceuticals (both small molecules and biologics). Some experience in developing patent strategies is needed as well.
You will be responsible for all patent matters in relation to the R&D projects to which you are assigned, such as drafting and prosecuting patent applications, patentability analysis, freedom to operate analysis, as well as developing patent and freedom to operate strategies. You will also participate in IP due diligences. You will work in close collaboration with scientists, project leaders, patent colleagues as well as colleagues from other parts of Lundbeck, and external agents in an international environment with great opportunities to develop your personal and professional skills. The position is open for a skilled and ambitious patent professional with at least 3-5 years of experience.

Our preferred candidate has the following personal and professional qualifications:

  • holds a master or PhD in chemistry, biology, pharmacy or medicine or other relevant background in natural sciences
  • is qualified as European Patent Attorney, or is preparing for the EQE
  • has experience in drafting and prosecution of pharmaceutical or biotech patents, developing patent and freedom to operate strategies, and some experience with IP due diligences
  • is fluent in written and spoken English
  • is a team worker and has the ability to work under pressure
  • possesses solid communication and presentation skills, across disciplines and organization
  • has strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • will contribute to a positive atmosphere and a pleasant working environment
